Out on the water in Langstone Harbour
Today I spent a full day out around Langstone and Chichester Harbours. Lots of pictures taken today, so it was difficult to decide which one to use! I began at Warblington and walked from there to Langstone and it is near Langstone Bridge that this picture was taken. This was the first time that I had walked along this stretch of the harbour and it was the best bit I saw in my view. After a fair amount of time spent there, I went on to Apuldram on Fishbourne Channel and walked to Dell Quay. Here is a boatyard and moorings and an old warehouse on the quay that gives the place its name. The views around there were very good. Over the head of the channel I could see Stoke Clump on the South Downs very clearly. The last place visited was at Birdham where I parked near the church and walked out to the huge Marina which has its own lock gates to allow vessels in and out. One was coming back in as I returned so I had to quickly walk across the gates which are electrically operated. The wooded shoreline here is somewhat reminiscent of the Cornish inlets that I have seen in pictures. Also nearby was the derelict Salterns Lock on the Chichester Canal that ends here and above the old lock were moored lots of houseboats. A very good day out exploring a variety of places in and around the harbour.
Langstone will be featuring in the story and while I am on that subject this picture is dedicated to one of the teachers at work who has left for pastures new. As a scene such as this would very much appeal to her, and being at one of the story locations, it seemed highly appropriate to use a picture from Langstone among the many taken today. She has given me a lot of her time, help and inspiration to which I am extremely grateful and I have gained a new friend too.
