Leather on willow
Firstly ignore the niece and nephew in the picture. They have little to something my memoirs tonight. After playing 50 holes of golf in little over three days my eyes were drawn to my battered old cricket bat when I walked in. A similar theme to a fellow Blipper actually today. Football will always be my first sport but cricket is a very close second. I've travelled the world watching England (generally getting stuffed), spent many an hour in the field day dreaming about opening the bowling in Sydney and captained various teams in the process. This bat, although never used in a match, is perfect for garden / beach cricket and has been with me on most holidays. Although never really a batsman I saw myself as the cockney Viv Richards when I was younger as I tried to hit balls to boundaries, into neighbours gardens and in some cases over houses. A fellow Blipper's son may remember the time when round the park my new bat (not this one) split in half when I hit a ball. I cried - I was 15. Before I got married (to the lucky Lady A) I travelled around most of London at 10.00 on a Saturday in preparation to open the bowling for my club not returning home till gone midnight. The horrible yips took over and I packed it in but I miss the game terribly.
However there was one find the other day. A half eaten marmite sandwich in the my cricket bag from 2009.
