Puebla De Sanabria
Our grand tour of the north west of Spain continues despite my car refusing to accelerate or go above 3000rpm which makes for an interesting journey in a a mountainous region like Galicia. Nevertheless we made it to the surprisingly lovely medieval village of Puebla De Sanabria where, in a middle aged attempt to get back to nature, I decided we should camp out in a tiny two person tent. After a few vinos in a local bodega we returned to our canvas casa whereby I cooked arroz marinera on a single flame washed down by a bottle of Ribiera. Afterwards I promptly fell into my sleeping bag and slept like a man who had drunk a particularly fine local wine. Marie didn't sleep so well. She prefers the sort of accommodation found in a hotel where muscular men are in attendance to anoint her body with rare oils, where surround sound snoring is not part of the sound system and a trip to the bathroom does not involve a 30 minute walk past vociferous drunken Dutch campers. Tomorrow we travel to Santiago De Compostela. We are staying in a hotel.
Marie reckons the location of this photo, taken from the castle, was a lookout point. I rather pompously explained that given the vertical nature of the slit in the wall, it was probably a place to fire arrows at intruding Romans/Visigoths/Moors/Dutch Tourists. Not so sure though.
