St Mary's Mass
Ricky, one of my fellow Blippers and I had an unusual assignment this morning.
We were recently asked by Father Aidan of St Mary’s Catholic Church if we could visit the church before morning Mass. The assignment was to capture some images of the inside of the Church at the start of Mass. We duly met and discussed possible viewpoints. Then Ricky and I positioned ourselves up in the choir loft at the back of the church. Hopefully if these images are satisfactory some will be used in a book that is to be published about St Mary’s Parish. This book is to be part of the Sesquicentennial Celebrations to be held later this year. Neither Ricky nor I are Catholics so we felt very privileged to be asked to capture images that will contribute to the special book and celebrations thus becoming part of the history of St Mary’s …such an important part of our Marlborough community. The lighting, with sun shining through side windows made for a challenging time. As can be seen in today’s blip, the Church is all lined out in rimu and kauri (native woods) and is a particularly beautiful example of Victorian architecture. It is a building that all of Blenheim greatly admires.
