The Shambles- York
We went to Clifford's Tower in the morning and took on a walking tour of York in the afternoon. We learned a lot about the history of the city including the origins of the term a bloody shambles. This photo was taken on a street called The Shambles. Our tour guide told us that The Shambles was filled with butcher's shops and as a result the street was covered in blood, guts and rubbish, the rain would wash this into the surrounding streets.
Nowadays The Shambles is filled with lots of unique little shops, as a result it was very busy during the day. We went back at night to get some photos when it was a bit quieter.
