Losing my religion

Today the sacred Sanskrit symbol of the swastika featured in my life in lots of different ways.

I sent a rakhi featuring this symbol to my brothers as part of Raksha Bandhan - an auspicious day between brothers & sisters.

This afternoon we went to the play 'Ganesh vs The Third Reich' as part of the international festival in which Ganesh the elephant god in Hinduism goes to Nazi Germany to reclaim this sacred symbol who used it to symbolise the very opposite of what it means to all Hindus.

Then this evening we went to see the Indian comedian Imran Yusuf who like myself was born in East Africa but is British talking about the swastika in one of his jokes...

For me this symbol has always represented protection from evil - I hope we never lose that.
