Culion sea wall
Arriving in Coron, the main port for the isolated Calamanian's we soon headed off to begin our adventure exploring the mysterious island of Culion.
Largely undeveloped at all the main village on Culion has an unusual history. It was once the site of the largest leper colony in the Philippines and the a sort of social scientific experiment to treat and eliminate the disease pioneered by American doctors during the brief US possession of the Philippines.
They made great strides in combating leprosy while creating a sort of utopian alternative society on this island. It is a fascinating place seemingly trapped in time and largely unvisited because of its spooky association. We loved it.
