The city of love!!!!
Where else could we spend our 29th wedding anniversary than in the city of love. This is mine and Mr Cs attempt at being romantic and artistic at the same time!!
We started off by walking upto Sacre Coeur taking in the views of Paris (Mr C and I have been to the church before). The weather at this stage was cloudy and drizzly. We went around the bustling square of Montmatre, with all the artists trying to sell their wares. Mr C bought a palmier (French heart shaped pastry) and we shared the heart between us ....ahh!!.walking further along to see the remaining moulin (windmills) and then down to show Rebecca the Moulin Rouge. She said it was better than I had described (probably looks better at night). Further walk past the sex shops (one being called Rebecca ~ so of course another photo opportunity!!!). Back on the metro and off to see the Arc de Triomphe. The weather was now a mixture of cloud and sunshine - still warm. They all played chicken by running across that very large roundabout to get to the middle. I just stayed put and watched in awe as all these cars fly around in all different directions whilst the pedestrians attempt to cross (there is a subway!!). The 'youngsters' wanted some free time to go off to Gallerie la Fayette and Mr C wanted to go to Notre Dame. Well it took us a lot longer to get there (walking for ages to find correct bus stop, getting off bus to early and more walking!!). So when we got there the queue was very, very long. A coffee and sit down was required. After, we went and sat back outside the cathedral to meet the others. A strong wind picked up, a few spots of rain... Gave way to thunder, lightening and torrential rain. The cathedral opened its 'exit' doors for people to take shelter. In the space of about 5 minutes I was absolutely drenched! The storm passed after about 15 minutes and we met up with the others who had been sitting in a cafe as the Gallerie La Fayette was closed because it is Sunday!! So our free time was slightly uneventful!!! We went and grabbed something to eat before heading towards the Eiffel Tower. We queued up to get our tickets before realising we were in the 'stairs only' section. We went with it!!!. Mr C and I struggled on the 368 steps up to the first level but the others continued upto the second level. The storm had left a lovely clear, sunny afternoon/evening. So the view from the tower was lovely and the sun setting was beautiful. By the time we descended the tower was lit up and had the full moon in the background too. By the time we had reached the Trocodero the 'sparkly' lights came on! I had never seen the tower at night and it was amazing to look at. It was now time to head home... Getting home just after midnight. A very long but enjoyable day!
