Timbers on Tour: Marlo
Backblip
Morning was spent rushing around ordering the tiles and bits for our bathroom renovation (which is due to start next week... golly it's an expensive undertaking!!).
Nick then picked me up and we piled the drumkit into the back of his Volvo and head for Steve's place: the rendez vous point. Damo and Aaron were late, having made a last minute "I'll just double check" call to the Marlo hotel who announced that they didn't have a PA system. Thankfully, we have our own, but it needed picking up.
From there, we jumped into the cars and set off for the 5 hours down to Marlo. We'd been told that we were due to play at 9, but we arrived at 7 to posters stating that we started at 8pm. Not cool. We quickly set up, had a beer, sound checked... and then had dinner. The set could wait.
Can't say that I'd every played in the country before, and I didn't know what to expect, but having the footy on the TV in front of the band was a bit offputting (at least people were looking the right way - I'm putting the winces down to bad scores and not our performance, which was actually pretty damn good). We were heckled a bit "Play something we know!", "Play Summer of 69!", but fought throught with some blues which got people up and dancing - we won them over in the end.
We had the benefit of staying in the pub, meaning that we could all have a drink... a real luxury for me as I always have to drive the drums home after a gig. We were up until the early hours messing around. It was fun. :)
Here we have Steve standing in the doorway to our room (a real doss house with beds and put you ups all over the place). Seemed quite fitting really!
