Canal House

The building in the right of the picture was the old HQ of the Forth and Clyde Canal. It was opened in 1812.

I keep thinking about the living history of the canal as I walk along the towpath.

This picture would not be out of place in a tourist guide, the only thing that's missing is a trendy bar.

Of course in bygone days this scene would be dark; smelly and dank as the canal was used to move goods and fuels to serve the sugar refinery, mills and power station that existed in the area.

I doubt those that worked here would ever have considered it as a place of leisure.
