Opening Ceremony
We were quite a small team compared to most at the opening ceremony and we didn't know the words to our national anthem, but we still proudly waved our flag!
Blog entry stolen from Alex Clark, our team support:
Day 1! An excited team meet at the airport, all goes smoothly until we arrive at Bristol airport, we expect to be greeted by a luxurious coach to take us on our 1.5 hour journey to the picturesque and quaint Swansea but instead after a delay two beat up classic school mini buses rock up, it's all good though we made impressive pace and got it bang on time to register and get the keys to our accommodation.
A quick trip to the beach and a game of throwing a ball about (not touch related) helped the team chill before starting to get focused on the job in hand.
The opening ceremony was our first chance to really appreciate the scale of the Euros tournament, there are some massive squads here but we held our own during our parade/march into our position up in front of the stand with the mandatory #selfies and waving to everyone! There was a lot of echoing from the speakers scattered around the fields so the welsh dudes who gave a speech were pretty much unreadable but I think they said something along the lines of "welcome to wales, have fun, enjoy yourselves but hands off our sheep"!? We were all very gutted not to hear the FIT anthem "touch is a game for everyone........" But we soon got over it when we were told we could make our way back for dinner!
First team in for food....winner!!
Après dinner was team focus time, the final pre tournie speech was given and well executed by Alfie, then back to the accommodation block for some much needed sleep ahead of the Wales, Jersey, Italy games to come.
