Pillar-box red
The name of the colour is pillar-box red, even if this isn't a pillar-box. It has been such a grey day, today. Nothing seemed very blip-worthy until I went out to post two birthday cards to M's big sister and great-nephew. The red of the box seemed to leap out, so that was the photo for today :)
The crown on the box has a E II R monogram underneath it in the rest of the UK, but in Scotland there was a campaign of blowing up postboxes in the fifties (on the principle that Scotland had never had an Elizabeth the First).
There's an Ordnance Survey height level carved into the wall at bottom right, too. When I was digging we used to have to find these and then take a chain of levels around the streets, from the mark to the site we were digging, so we could reckon an absolute depth or height of anything we found "AOD" (Above Ordnance Datum)
Fascinating, eh?? ;)
