Grey Heron, Green Trees

A wee trip up town this a.m., M went to the post-office to make sure birthday cards got to their recipients in time. I got some food for tonight, then wandered back from Canonmills to Leith along the Water.
Saw plenty of birds: apart from the woodpigeons, magpies, robins, mallards, crows and blackbirds, there were a lot of long-tailed tits, some bluetits, great- and coal-tits, wrens, house-sparrows, goosanders, a goldcrest, two treecreepers, a siskin and this heron (Ardea cinera), looking (as ever) like a slightly eccentric professor.

I liked his choice of background up in the trees, today. The way the river is running, he probably didn't fancy fighting the current and trying to spot fish in the turbid waters.
