Sunrise at Derwent Water

The weather forecast for our final day at LPH promised cloud and sun and it seemed that that there might be promising conditions for sunrise... so I went down to Friar's Crag/Strandshag Bay by about 5am, waiting for the sun to come up.

It was quietly magical to watch the mist on the lake and simply enjoy the peace. (Apart from the blooming noisy Canada geese, that is.) The colours were very soft and fleeting - only a few fells were touched and this is one of them. As you can see there was plenty of mist/low cloud which kept hiding and revealing the mountainsides.

There were two shots which I was really pleased with. The other can be seen here and it was a real toss-up between the two.

In the end, I decided to post this one as it shows Castle Crag in the foreground, which I climbed with John and some of the group later in the day.

All in all, it's been another beautiful, but very long day with great weather (I've definitely caught the sun) and some great photography. As ever, my thanks go to John and Gail at LPH for making it all possible... :)
