Festival Time

We had to head into Edinburgh to go to the dentist today. BB slept late, and I am always very reluctant to wake a sleeping child, especially when he needs a long sleep. He got up late and we were cutting it fine to get to our appointment. We were a little late, but I can also blame the train and Edinburgh traffic for that. After our check-ups, the day was ours to wander round Edinburgh taking in the festival atmosphere. We headed to The Book Festival first. We didn’t have tickets for anything, but we wandered into the childrens’ book shop. BB had a consultation with Dr Book and we left with a prescription, a heavy bag of books and a light purse. I managed a very quick visit to the main book shop – but was very restrained!

Over to the West End Craft Fair. Had a look around, lots of lovely things, but resisted as I realised that I had very little cash. I may go back though! Next stop The Grassmarket and pizza for lunch – mushroom and calamari (BB’s choice). The waitress who delivered commented on the interesting combination! Wandered up through Greyfriars Graveyard and then popped into see TT at work (just to be clear he doesn’t work in the graveyard!).

We then headed down the High Street to watch some street performers. BB enjoys this a lot. We saw the usual kind of things, but they were entertaining - juggling fire on top of a ladder, juggling swords on top of a ladder, catching a cup and saucer on your head while riding a unicycle, some excellent singing, a strange interpretation of Oliver Twist, and so on.

To round our day off BB met a classmate, who he hasn’t seen all summer, on the train home and was very excited. I’m off out to meet up with some friends to say farewell to Miss E’s mum.

Here are the Soweto Spiritual Singers who we bumped into outside Greyfriars. They were fantastic!
