Little Italy
Another non-garden visit today was to the summit of Snowdon by railway. The sun shone on the way up, but the summit was obscured by cloud, which cleared now and then to give amazing views of the valleys below. There was a ferocious wind at the summit and our group - and others - were reluctant to climb the last twenty feet as the steps had no handrail. Several times I heard 'This wouldn't be allowed in the USA'! I got blown off my feet, but fortunately not over the edge!
We then visited Plas Brondanw, the garden laid out by Clough Williams-Ellis, creator of Portmerion. A superb architectural garden, paving the way for our final visit of the day, to Portmerion itself. I enjoyed it very much, with its tumble of Italian buildings and huge trees, but several of the Americans declared it tacky and Disneyesque! You can't please all of the people all of the time!
