The atlas moth

We went to London Zoo for Nick's birthday!

Aside from the lack of food hygiene standards (I won't bore you with it) and the handful of parents that refused to stop their kids from running around scaring animals and a few people - not just children - tapping on the glass to get a resting kangroos attention, it was a good day!

Nick was thrilled to see the Komodo dragons (you know what we're like when it comes to reptiles), I was thrilled to see the many atlas moths there - this one had only hatched from the cacoon that morning. We didn't see some bits as we had timed it badly getting there while talks were being held, like the tigers, but as we can see them at local places we weren't majorly upset by that.

We were oddly surprised by how many mice there were running around different enclosures though. We aren't bothered at all by them, we like mice but they were in with the bats, the hummingbirds (we did see a hummingbird nearly chase after one while it was legging it down the mesh)... Bizarre.

But yes, if we can afford to visit again then we'll go during term time when it's a little less hectic there...!
