Ship In A Bottle
Passing the Dublin docks, I noticed people pulling in to snap that luxury cruise ship misnamed 'The World' (the definite article should be replaced with 'Another').
I wrote this about it:
The World
On a warm summer night I pulled in to watch The World,
that is the 644 foot yacht called The World,
anchored in The Liffey, opposite the East Link Toll.
Its name was not only painted on the prow and stern
but up in lights, mounted near the funnel:
Ripples made its reflection almost beautiful.
Other cars stopped. A couple got out, necked
and waved. Framed in a couple of windows
a handful of slim silhouettes regarded us.
One pointed. Their voices did not carry.
From the online brochure: ‘During the day
you indulge in a Balinese massage, sip a cup of coffee
in the neighborhood café or head to the marina
for a kayak ride on the open sea. The same sea
that will inspire new ideas as you look over
a business plan in your study...’
