Watch your step in Asturias
Asturias is a fantastic hidden treasure in northern Spain. Green, rugged mountains right next to a beautiful coastline, while not cooking in summer because of the soaring heat (as you will in the rest of the country). This is an overview of the lower parts of the mountains, which - as you can see in the upper left corner - extend right into the Gulf of Biscay.
Small detail: the landscape is perfect for long walks in the mountains. So then it does not really help to overlook a step down and breaking (?) a bone in your foot, resulting in a five-hour visit to the hospital in Gijon for (non-conclusive) x-rays and a ban on walking... In the end it meant we would abort our trip early*; a real shame, because Asturias really is worth a fair bit of time.
* Actually this is our second trip gone astray, as we would now actually be biking through eastern Thailand, would it not be for a sudden surgery of S.
