Last minute

Despite having uniform, art shirts & PE kit washed and put away within the first week of the summer holidays, despite insisting that all bags were packed and ready to go the week before the end of the school holidays; somehow at 8pm, the night before they go back to school, I heard the plaintive cry of "But I can't find my PE bag ANYWHERE!" . Followed by an excited "Can you sew the letters of my name on the front as as well? In different colours? And a penguin?"

It's been a wonderful 7 weeks with them. A proper Enid Blyton summer. I don't think any parent could wish for more.
