Two Mile Ash Bridge

I went for a different walk following in the same vein on my own as yesterday and checked out bits of the disused railway that I had never visited before.

This bridge is as far as I walked to having done a long circular walk beforehand. This carrieds Two Mile Ash Road towards Horsham and is on the former double track line from Itchingfield Junction to Shoreham. This line was opened cin stages from Shoreham Junction to Partridge Green on 1st July 1861 and then onwards to Itchingfield Junction on 16th September 1861. It was initially single track but was doubled between 1877 and 1879. Passenger services ceased on 7th March 1966 as a result of Beeching. The bridge is in good condition and is well and sturdily built with a girder span and predominently of brick. I had no idea until today that the span was straight, thinking it was likely to be an arched span as this was the first time I had walked along this part of the route which forms part of the Downs Link Path.
