On Tour

Being in Gateshead we had to visit The Angel Of The North - that wornderful statue standing high and proud above the main A1 road (but hidden in the mist today).
It really is a wonwonderful piece of ironwork.

Next stop on the days tour was Souter Lighthouse in Whitburn. It isn't the most photogenic of lighthouses and wasn't open to find out much of its history......but I do know it is the first lighthouse in the world ever to have been powered by electricity -- a bit more modern than the windmill a few hundred yards away.

In Sunderland there is the National Glass Centre (I never knew such a place existed ..... you learn something new every day) and todays Blip is the piece of art at the entrance - a shame is the cracked..
Some of the pieces on display and for sale are amazing, but way out of my price range (until I win the lottery).
The glassblower was quite happy to let me stand and take pictures.

The concert we were down to see was Elkie Brooks who I last saw in 1977/78.
Then she was quite happy to pose for people taking pictures.
Nowadays the organisers say you are not allowed to take pictures which is a real shame because she was still happy to pose for those blatant enough to flaunt the rules.
She is still an amazing singer with the best note control I have ever heard (1 high note was held for the best part of a minute).
