The Wheat Field

You need to see the bigger picture for this one!

It seems like I've been in shutdown mode today. For once the weekend dawned with blue skies but I was so drained of energy by this last week that I couldn't find the will to have any kind of adventure. I eventually decided to heed the wisdom that has been left in comments for me here and tried to enjoy the morning sunshine without having to be running or cycling through the countryside. It was a rare pleasure to have breakfast and catch up with some reading on my balcony. I'm not quite ready to get used to that though!

I had a notion to run the Burnsall Fell Race today but with so little training in the legs and still feeling under par I decided to give that one away. I've not seen Roam play cricket for quite a while so I settled for an afternoon down at the club. Unfortunately, just before play was due to begin the weekend weather found its familiar groove and delivered another payload of rain - enough to prevent any play for three hours. That reduced the game to something of a bash on a sticky wicket. Having lost the toss and being put into bat we swished and generally missed all the way to a paltry 39. The firsts down the valley at Otley were also put into bat and fared little better, being bowled out for 57. Naturally enough both teams lost. It was a rather inauspicious day for the club. And for me too really.

Just before play started, with the sun shining and the storm clouds in retreat, I cycled over to my favourite field of wheat, just a mile up the back road to Askwith, and got the shot I've been looking for all week. I've had the light before, and the cloudage before, but not both together. It was finally a wrap! That at least gave me a bit of pleasure in the afternoon.
