Home & Away

She Sphinx She's A Guard Dog!

Dolly is looking over and guarding our home for the next few days.

We have come to Wales, joining a friend and her family on their camping holiday. This is our first 'proper' camping trip - in a 'real' campsite. My friend is a pro, taking her family camping several times a year and I am learning the ropes from her. Other than already having a tent and all I need for sleeping, I am at her mercy to teach me how to cook and live life on a campsite. If I enjoy it, I plan to equip myself for future camping trips. I'm always looking for fun and affordable holiday options, with or without Dolly.

So far we are enjoying the world of camping. As you can see from the sky (and from yesterday's blip), the weather is not exactly ideal. This has been a very cool and wet August, although we've had several months of warm and dry weather in the UK. Today it rained quite a bit which I didn't mind at all. My friend and daughter went horseback riding and her son and I stayed behind and read our books and played some games, in the shelter of the tent. When it wasn't raining he took me to see one of the many steam trains that go past the campsite several times a day. We are staying near Tywyn and along the Talyllyn Railway line, the world's first preserved railway. Many of the people camping here are steam train enthusiasts and camp here year after year. My friends have been involved with this particular railway for 2 generations, her father being involved since the early days of it's restoration.

In a way I'm quite glad that the weather has not been ideal. It is a good test to see whether I can cope with camping in wet cool weather as well as warm and dry. I might have wanted to abandon it if it was constantly pouring, but I seem to cope pretty well with damp and cool.
