Moulting gets on my tits

August is a miserable time to be a bird. Moulting must be a miserable experience. At least, they all look (and act) miserable for a month. Like this long tailed tit at Cossington Meadows this afternoon.

I was very tempted by this group of lapwings (a very long focal length away), but in the end, the technical quality of this shot won out. Not much else on evidence today, and no other decent shots to show for the trip. At least August, and moulting, will soon be over.
