La Coupée
La Coupée is the narrow isthmus joining Little Sark to Sark. It is a concrete causeway with iron railings built 80 metres above sea level by German prisoners of war at the end of WW2. The roadway is 3m wide and 100m long, a tight squeeze for the tractors or horse and carriages that pass along. All passengers have to get off and walk across, as do cyclists. Down to the left there is a sheer drop to the Convanche Chasm and to the right the many stepped descent to the best beach in the world - La Grande Grève.
Today there was so much rain we had to stay inside until the afternoon. Mum and India went out in the rainstorm to collect wildflowers for Indias flower display for the competition tomorrow. Ruby and I ventured out for a cream tea but when we got up to Caragh tea shop it was closed, perhaps the boats had been cancelled due to bad weather so no tourists arrived on Sark. We walked up to the Coupée where it was so windy Ruby had to hang on to me so I could take these photos. It was hard enough just holding onto the camera.
We all walked to La Moinerie for a lovely dinner in a beautiful candle filled dining room. The walk home was absolutely pitch black and Dad vowed not to go out to dinner again!
