A long and winding and bumpy and slippery road
This is the best part of the drive. Not necessarily the scenic vistas; there are far better sights deep in the heart of the island. Not because it is the area that receives the most radio stations from the mainland; the local NPR station can be heard throughout the entire island. Not because it is lined with big eucalyptus trees; Wrigley planted them all over the island to prevent serious accidents from drunk drivers (himself) in the '30's. Not because it means you are getting close to the main city of Avalon; I'd rather be traveling the opposite direction. But simply because it is the smoothest stretch of the entire 40 mile road from one end of the island to the other and while the switch-backs are steep and hairpin this is the one area you don't have to fear your coffee cup.
This is a picture of me in a fisheye mirror on the edge of the road.
