Peacock Butterfly (Aglais io)
Back Blipped
Typical day of chores doing Saturday jobs on a Tuesday! This weeks guests at the lodge couldn't come until Tuesday and so Saturday became Tuesday!
While we were there I spotted two butterflies behaving in a way I hadn't seen before. This is one the other was a Red Admiral. They were siting on the woodwork of the verandah wings spread and not moving for many minutes. I assume that as it was a cool day they were caught out and were in what sun there was trying to gather heat to be able to function.
I have seen more Peacocks than usual this year. We are in one of the two peak flight periods for the species the other being late April early May (round here). This is another species which has the nettle as one of the other main larvae food plants. Another one being hops - beer drinkers could consider them a pest :-))
