Fazakerley Library, Liverpool

Built with European Redevelopment Fund money in 2000 -and opened by Phil Redmond (of Brookside fame) in 2002 as a Community Library and Lifelong Learning Centre, it stands opposite the Fazakerley Information Centre. Both are owned by the Fazakerley Trust, and there is a fear as to the possible domino effect of the closure of this library. Not only would the library close but the other community facilities would be affected by the loss of income.

One of the indicators on which this library is alleged to perform badly is it's computer use. Yet the computers are now 14 years old and very slow. Many people go across the road to ask the Advice Centre to use theirs, but they are not properly equipped to meet the demand.

This is one of the city's more recent library buildings, but is now threatened with closure, 8/11.
