St. Mary's Chapel, Lead
Started off today planning to bottle a batch of beer, got all set up and then remembered that I had no bottle tops left. So I had an unplanned trip to Crossgates near Leeds to get some. Decided to come a long way round to get home and passed this little church. Been on my list of 'blips to do' so I stopped to have a look around.
It is just in the middle of a field!
It was part of a small medieval settlement, Lead, which had a small manor house and a few other buildings. The Chapel itself was saved from neglect by a group of ramblers in the 1930s. It is now Grade II listed.
Difficult to photograph without the pylon cables in the background - too fiddly to remove them digitally! Anyone got any recommended techniques for scrubbing them?
I also photographed the interior, but only through the window with my lens pressed right up to the glass. I took 5 shots at different exposures and combined in Photomatix Pro. The results are interesting - but I can't seem to get rid of the 'glare' around the window at the far end. See here for the HDR shot.
