day 2
i awoke this morning imagining a tide pool shimmering with scattered buttons. i loaded my gear and headed out. it was a beautiful morning. i traversed the rocks and came upon my little tide pool, full of expectation…
my heart sank. the buttons sat in their neat little pile just as i had left them. i sighed. so much for that fantasy that a fellow blipper across the big pond might find a button on their early morning beach walk anytime soon. still, i set up and took the shot. i noticed six errant buttons that had defiantly left the pile, traveling at a fast clip of 6 to 12 inches per day. being the thorough scientist i am, i documented those as well. then i just stood there, wondering what to do next. this might be a long week for blipping.
trying not to be discouraged, i decided to check out the rest of the tide pool. i spotted a few hermit crabs among the scores of periwinkle and mussel shells. next a rock crab scampered sideways across the pool. this pool was coming to life. i had almost forgotten the sad state of my buttons when i saw it.
this rock crab had algae growing on his kneecaps. no joke. if a fast moving crab grows algae in this tide pool, my buttons don't stand a chance. i took a blip of this guy with algae streaming off his joints. it seemed more interesting than a repeat of yesterday's blip, less 6 buttons. i sat for a while in the sunshine, watching the rocks sink as the tide rolled in. then i packed up and headed home for breakfast. perhaps there will be a hurricane this week, i hoped.
