White Ensigns in Church

This is in St Margaret's Church, Burnham Thorpe, a small Norfolk village but large in historical terms for Horatio Nelson was born there in 1758, and his father was rector of this church.

Nelson died at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 and lies buried in St Paul's Cathedral.

These White Ensigns are exact replicas of those used in Nelson's earlier years and were put in place in around 1920 by gracious permission of the Admiralty. The design of the flag changed in 1801. Particular rules govern when and by which Royal Navy ships the flag and its variants may be used.

I thought a bit of history might make up for any shortcomings in the photo . . .
