Old Alresford, St Mary The Virgin
It was a horrible day weatherwise, but given I had two days left, I decided to go into Hampshire into the areas where the story is set and have a look at some church interiors I had not finished or done before in photographs.
This was the last church I visited and this one lies to the north of New Alresford between Alton and Winchester. The nave dates from 1753, the tower from 1769 and the vestry and south transept from the 19th Century. Unusually it is built largely of brick and has bands of flint in it. There are a number of interesting memorials in the church including one to Mary Sumner, founder of the Mother's Union.
It's a timely thought to end today that given all the problems I have had with "dating" women and internet dating, I read endless profiles of women and so many of them are either agnostic or atheist. Although my religious faith is not at all strong, I spend a lot of my time visiting churches and it dawned on me that if I ever succeed in this hellish endeavour, that person, who ever she ends up being needs to have some understanding or actually some form of faith. So that is one thing I have learnt.
