The Kelpies
These new statues by Andy Scott by the River Carron, near Falkirk, really are as impressive close up as they promised seen from the M9 earlier (from construction to completion). It was one of those soft grey warm days, maybe not best for photography, but quite atmospheric. Kelpies are malevolant water spirits (we call them Njuggels in Shetland - same modus operandi) - the weary traveler meets a horse on the lonely path and thinks to ride it to help him on his way, but when he has mounted it returns to the nearest river or loch, drowning him.
Since we were near, we went on to see the Falkirk Wheel - the ultra modern lock which lifts boats from the restored Forth/Clyde canal to the Union Canal that runs into Edinburgh.Pity I can't publish two photos today (will put some in my folio - when I get around to it) so the Kelpies win.
