Running Eagle Falls
We walked to these falls in Two Medicine, a southeast portion of Glacier National Park. It was late in the afternoon, after a cold day with considerable precipitation, which fell as snow at least above 7000 feet. The clouds were very low, which accounts for the mistiness on the upper right of the image.
Viewed large it's perhaps clearer that the water emerges from a tunnel or cave. The falls become more interesting at high water when a second stream falls from the top of the cliff, resulting in a wide range of variations.
The falls are named for Running Eagle, a Blackfoot tribeswoman who lived in the early 19th century. She achieved the skills of a warrior. (The link at the beginning tells more of the story.)
