A Hint of Spring
The day dawned grey and the light flat. It did not deviate from that. However there is a hint of spring in the air. The willows along the Taylor River are losing some of their winter nakedness. Some have already burst into bud and others are changing to a reddish hue in preparation for bud burst.
This view of the Taylor River was captured from downstream of the Omaka Airfield ford. The pines on the hills in the far distance are the wind-breaks surrounding the Meadowbank Station homestead. The whitish shingle along the edges of the water in the river is indicating that we have had a significant dry period over the last month. The water in the river is declining and has disappeared underground not far downstream. The region is quite likely to go into a “spring drought” unless we have some decent amount of rain during September. It is drizzling as I write but not predicted to amount to much.
We are attending the annual dinner and prize-giving of our Camera Club tonight. This will be fun and even more so in that I can just turn up and not be worried over last minute details. Most of the organizing of the event was done before I stepped down from the presidency last month. So tonight…I can cruise and appreciate the new committee at work. Cool!
