the thing with the ring

Another lovely day here in Belfast, so I thought I'd blip another one of our landmarks. This is part of a huge piece of public art called "The Beacon of Hope" which stands by the River Lagan, very close to the Big Fish sculpture I blipped last Saturday.

The statue is almost 20 metres high; it consists of a lady holding a "ring of thanksgiving", all cast from twisted steel tubes, standing on top of a huge bronze globe. The whole thing is supposed to represent peace and harmony or something or other, but I think it's just a cool piece of art :)
