Bogota is a city of contrasts and inequality. One of the biggest contrasts and signs of inequality is the difference between the rich and poor neighbourhoods. The city works on a strata system from 1-6. 6 being the most expensive neighbourhoods where public service bills are more expensive but where only a certain type of person lives. The strata system keeps people segregated, for example when we were looking to buy the apartment Miguel knew he could only afford strata 3 or 4 because the cost of water, electricity and has is affordable as well as the costs in the supermarkets around these neighbourhoods. People with low incomes won't dream of moving into strata 5 be aide of the costs of the houses and the bills! But the difference in the neighbourhoods! Look at this beautiful park! I wish everywhere in bogota had beautiful parks for people to relax in and enjoy. The pavements are spotless, no rubbish and at least there are pavements not just dirt paths. I think about the inequality in bogota because it's so obvious and it's so damaging. How can there be real peace when so many people live on the brink of existence watching their neighbours enjoying the full advantages of a modern city - and they have no access to these benefits. s]
