... visit the Colosseum!

We discovered that it is only possible to visit all the levels of the Colosseum if you pay extra to go on an official tour. The English tours had sold out by 10 am, so we went on an Italian tour instead.
We don't speak Italian...

Afterwards, we went to the Forum, and then on to the Palazzo Massimo alle Terme (the Roman Museum) which is often described as the finest museum in the city.

We ended our day at the Ristorante Alessio for what was probably the best meal of our holiday. I had lasagne, the like of which I've never tasted before, followed by the dessert of the day, which consisted of cream, ice cream and blackberries - yum! Oh, and there was wine, of course!
