There's something in the Ayr air!
What a day! I was a bit woolly headed this morning after enjoying Ayr Brewing Company Jolly Beggars last night in the West Kirk. I tried to take a picture of the moon on the way back as it was after midnight when I was dawdling home but my camera battery died on me and my spare one was on my dressing table in the house. I was annoyed about missing nailing today's blip so early!
I didn't expect there to be much going on with the Scottish Air Show today as yesterday was the main day. I toyed with idea of going to Prestwick Airport as there was a ground display going on but I was feeling lazy.
At this stage I send a MASSIVE thanks to JohnH1989 who I have to thank for my blip today. Commenting on my tartan bus blip from yesterday this morning, he told me that the two Lancaster Bombers were coming over Ayr Beach at 10:30am and 14:10pm. I listened to the early fly past as I was sat on my arse engrossed in Highway To Heaven.
I'm not sure poor mom thinks much of John though as I was standing in the hall yelling orders at mom like a sergeant major trying to hurry her out of the door down to the beach. We left the house just after 2pm and by five past we were stood with the crowds with cameras. Ummmm....there were three of us. Generally I am rubbish at getting plane pictures as they have gone by the time I find them in the sky and I end up with just a tail! These older planes must fly much more slowly. These aren't the best pictures in the world but it was a miracle for me! Cheers John!
Go large!
We then went to a couple of Doors Open Day events. We wandered to St John's Tower which is all that remains of the original parish church of Ayr. On 26 April 1315, the first Parliament of Scotland was held in Ayr by Robert The Bruce at St John's Tower. It was great to see the gate open and wander in. I was determined to go up it but after a few steps up the winding stone staircase, my knees started knocking together like castanets! I couldn't do it and failed just as I had with the Scott Monument a few years ago and York Minster.
Tight, winding staircases are not for me! It's the getting down that worries me most. I might be stuck up there as a permanent feature as you'd never get a stretcher up there to get me down! The lady at the foot of the tower laughed a lot when I explained I couldn't do it. She then made me feel really great telling me about an elderly person who had turned up earlier in a wheelchair and got up to the top with the aid of a couple of walking sticks!
HUMPH!
Oh well....
