Rainy Day

Thanks a lot for nice stars and commenting yesterday!

Today on my way back home from work I walked through the city centre from the railway station to the Aleksanteri church. I had this wild idea to capture the graveyard from late 1800's. The area is actually a park today, but the old cemetery is still around the church. Sometimes it is facinating to see people walking on the routes there - between the stones and grosses. Today There was So Few People Because of the Rain... Anyway I liked to show you the cemetery, and instead blipped the statue on the bridge Hämeensilta.

The man of the statue is one of the four statue ensemble Hämeensillan Pirkkalaisveistokset by Wäinö Aaltonen (1929). The bridge itself also is from 1929. These four statues illustrate ideal and sporty people and the bridge were due to inaugurate at 26. september 1929, but because the ship m/s Kuru had just 7.9.1929 sank into the Näsijärvi lake in front of Tampere - some 138 people had died out of the 150 passengers between the harbour and lighthouse - the opening of the bridge was cancelled. The blip I linked is from another pfotographer from Tampere, hope you liked it.

Nice day +17c in Helsinki, less in Tampere;)
