Brise Soleil....
A Brise Soleil is an architectural term for a perforated metal screen surrounding a building to filter out the full glare of the sun. It's French for 'sun breaker.' But you knew that didn't you? There's been quite a fashion for them being put on new builds in Manchester recently. Or are they just getting the city ready for global warming? There's a bright red one on the CityLabs building in the university on Oxford Road. There's a white one on an office block full of media types in Spinningfields. And a gold one on an office block in Ancoats. But the most spectacular one is on the new teaching building on MMU's new Birley Fields campus in Hulme. Here's a picture of just a corner, my attempt to take an arty shot.
