Harvest Moon
Last night I remembered that the weather forecaster had mentioned that we could see the super moon again last night. I missed the previous super moon, so kept checking last night to see if I could see it. If the neighbours caught a glimpse of me in my slippers and jimmies, taking photos of the sky, they would be forgiven for thinking I had gone insane.
It was also a Harvest Moon, which is the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox and this one coincided with its status as a super moon. The annual Harvest Moon gets its name from the farmers who used to rely on its moonlight to help them work.
It made me think of a Neil Young song "Harvest Moon" that my older brother used to play in our teenage years:
When we were strangers
I watched you from afar
When we were lovers
I loved you with all my heart.
But now it's gettin' late
And the moon is climbin' high
I want to celebrate
See it shinin' in your eye.
Because I'm still in love with you
I want to see you dance again
Because I'm still in love with you
On this harvest moon.
