Travelling over the Hai Van Pass
Made famous by the guys on Top Gear, we hired a bike for the day and set off alone. Driving along the coast out of Han Oi, we soon got accosted by a local women trying to sell us marble. Seeing as we were heading her way anyway, we kept her keen, as she mentioned she'd look after our bike while we visited Marble Mountain, if we took a look in her shop. Luckily enough, our bike was still there when we returned from viewing the 'not so marble' mountain. After a quick whizz around her shop we were off, back on the highway.
We head up and over a beautiful peninsular, but before we knew it, we were lost. We had taken the much more scenic route, which happened to consist of narrow, steep, twisting bends and our bike struggled. Thankfully the hedges kept us on track!
Back on route, we were getting closer to the Hai Van Pass. Hai Van means "Sea of Clouds" and when we crossed over the top of the Pass we were literally surrounded by clouds. With rain falling all around, we had to settle for brief glimpses of the ocean views and rolling countryside. The hairpin corners kept us entered.
We raced a train all the way, when went up and over and meandered around, it cut through tunnels, and stretched out along valley floors. It slowed us down a few times, forcing us to stop as it cut across the road, but without the jury of the film crew to decide, I think we won!
