Between fen and mountains

Tour de Goa

Today's walk took us up to the Tour de Goa. This is a flat topped cylindrical tower used in medieval times both for signalling and for defence. In the event of danger, those keeping watch would light a fire in a metal cage on top. There were other such towers that could relay the message.
We then went down into the village of Casteil and were invited for aperitifs in the garden of one of the walkers before continuing on our way.

More photos of the walk can be found here.
