Theatre at Nuutajärvi glass village
Today we had a very interesting artistic experience at Nuutajärvi glass village, which is the home of Finland's oldest glass factory since 1793.
THis was the opening night of a new event, Urjala Soikoon! - which will hopefully become a tradition. There was a combination of music, theatre, visual arts and gourmet food in the programme. At first we saw a performance integrating video art into the text of Dostoyevsky's Idiot with music by Bach at the background. It was breathtaking, one of the best theatrical experiences that I have had!
After that there was the intermission with delicious food, and after that there was a string trio performing Esa-Pekka Salonen, Lepo Sumera, Ligety etc. with great photos by Stefan Bremer shown as a slide show at the background. A very interesting programme, especially the music - the pictures of flowers and nordic lights seemed a bit too romantic to me.
But all in all a very promising new happening at a nice location. As you can see in the blip there were all the ovens and other paraphernalia needed in glass manufacturing surroiunding the audience. I thoght that it would be very hot there with all of those ovens, but it turned out that it was quite chilly. Luckily there were some blankets provided for us. The factory is not in active use any longer, I suppose.
