Sorry, blackbirds!

The blackbirds will have to find another nest site next year. My friend came round to 'tidy up' the lilac bush and we decided it was spreading too close to the conservatory and had to go. I bought it as a single twig when I moved here 16 years ago - came as a pack of 5 shrubs, the ivy has spread right along the back fence, the buddleia occupies the far corner, the winter jasmine is still only a small shrub, the flowering currant for some reason is a ground cover (but not much of it) but the lilac really took off in a big way about 3 years ago with shoots coming up right beside the conservatory.
Sorry birds - the ivy is your best bet.
