CannyScot's Day

Water Fountain

Damp, dull and dreich day.

We are having a surprise visit from our Granddaughter from Edinburgh for a couple of days. Just before we picked her up from the Station we were in the carpark at Discovery Point, where this Water Fountain was erected in memory of William Longair. He was Lord Provost in Dundee between 1905 and 1908. He was also a very successful business man and was connected to the Lawside Jute Works for 60 years. In the background, even through the gloom, you can see the Tay Road Bridge.

Quite what those business men in Dundee's heyday of Jute, Jam and Journalism would have made of the current debate over Scottish Independence I don't know. It does seem strange to me that one day 120 leading businessmen come out in support of the No campaign and the next day 140 leading business come out in favour of the Yes campaign. In the end, it will come down to the votes of ordinary people like me to make the decision.
