A Trip to Oxford.
A good first nights sleep in hospital, only waking once for a feed. We were woken up at 6am for Mummy to have her blood pressure checked.
We noticed that in the night baby had thrown up a little bit of greenish vomit. The nurse thought it best to get the doctor to check her.
To be on the safe side the doctor wanted to do some more checks & so she was taken up to the special baby care unit Buscot.
I went up to visit her half an hour later, poor little thing had an iv drip in her hand & a tube from her stomach to her nose. I had to keep her nill by mouth, she was put on antibiotics, given an x-ray then we had to wait for more doctors.
After a morning of waiting the doctors decided to send her to Oxford for some more tests.
She went in a special ambulance designed to transport baby's she was put into a trolley/incubator/time machine thing. She wore little ear protectors & was strapped in by velcro, the whole thing looked very scary but we knew she was safe & sound inside. The plan was to send me in another ambulance as they wouldn't discharge me & for Daddy to drive up in the car.
By late afternoon we found out that there were no ambulances available till the next day to take me to Oxford, then Oxford phoned me & asked how I planed to feed her? By this point I was very upset that I wasn't being transferred that day as I wanted to exclusively breast feed.
I then phoned Oxford to find out what was going on.
After many try's I got through & asked to talk to someone about baby Broughton - Daddy came on the phone.
To our relief all the tests had been clear & she was give a clean bill of health. Of course by this point there were no ambulances to bring her back to the RBH but daddy had the car seat & was aloud to drive her back to the hospital. They arrived at 9.30pm but had to then go to the Lion children's ward to get checked over by more doctors. As she couldn't come to me I had to go & find them so I could feed her, I was very upset she wasn't aloud back onto maternity Daddy stayed with her again in a bed next to her cot. Then at 2.30am the doctors gave her the all clear & she was aloud back onto the maternity ward with me.
What a day.
