I want to ride my bicycle
I went for a quick run this morning before leaving for Liverpool. And look who I saw on the way back...
Such a joyous sight to see Elsa and her friends pedalling to school. Although we've all had bikes for ages (mine came out of a hedge) the girls and I have only just started using them as a proper mode of transport this Summer. It's brilliant, as any self-respecting proper cyclist like AlfeeTee knows and now we try to plot routes to everywhere by bike. Luckily the network of canals, parks, housing estates and side roads around us means we can nip about far and wide while almost totally avoiding main roads.
So I left for Liverpool this morning with this wonderful image in my head and since arriving here have had a splendiferous day with my Scouse friends revisiting old places and memories.

PostScript to yesterday, only for those who care/can be bothered!:
I spoke yesterday about waving across the generational divide (or something like that). Well it's happened! This evening an old friend, Barry Sutton was doing a gig with his new ensemble Beatnik Hurricane. So we had to go and see him play of course. He hasn't changed a bit and although he inhabits a 40-something body he is still an overexcited lad with psychedelic popstar tendencies. Always will be I suspect.
And so we tripped the light fantastic and relived our youth and smiled and we celebrated getting this far, being together and the madness of it all.
Meanwhile and by complete coincidence, it turned out that my friends 18 year old daughter Lucy was over the road (in a massive pub with the biggest screen I've ever seen) celebrating her last Thursday in Liverpool before she goes off to Sheffield Uni on Saturday.
As she celebrated her youth, so we also remembered and celebrated ours. The whole thing seemed quite poignant to me and when we left the bar for home we did indeed wave to her across the generational divide...
